Volunteer Interviews

    Hello,

I would like to know if you interview your college student volunteers.  If so, do you do them individually, as a group, in person or virtual?  We  currently do virtual group interviews with our students.  We are trying to see what the trend is and whether it's a waste of time to interview them when all of them end up being accepted into the program.  Are interviews required by The Joint Commission?  I would also like to know if you accept students on a daily basis or do you have enrollment periods for them?  Thank you for your feedback; it is very much appreciated!  Nancy

I do not interview college students.  I have one big group push in the spring and fall, but if they want to start anytime, I will allow that.  If a student is a first year student, I ask they wait a semester or year before they can start volunteering so they can get use to college life and figure out what they really would like to do.

I do individual interviews, but have been thinking about trying a virtual format since most of my college students come from a school that is about 25 miles away. I prefer individual to group simply because I feel it helps me get to know them better, which helps with placement.

I do have specific times when they can apply for each semester. I also determine a cut-off, based on a number of factors. After a certain point in the semester it is not efficient to place them knowing they will soon be leaving for Christmas break, summer, etc, and class schedule changes will necessitate changing their schedule (and possibly their department) with us.

    Hello Nancy,

I interview students individually in person (not all students are accepted).  I accept students on a daily basis.  There are many colleges that are close to the institution.
