I have a 90 year old volunteer dating an 85 year old volunteer.  Recently, he has become increasingly protective of her.  She is beginning to fail some.  He says I am too hard on the older volunteers and was unprofessional in raising his voice etc.  I understand this has more to do with her failings and he will probably act out more as she goes down more.  He is a member of our Foundation and has a son who is a doctor.  How should I handle his being uncooperative?  How do you address a volunteer who does not want to retire but needs to?

Sadly enough this is the point at which you have to "fire" a volunteer.  I would be sure to make your superiour aware before you do it, and you may want to to talk to the son as well.  But having been through this myself, a disruptive volunteer is the worst thing to have around.  Good luck!
