Pet Therapy Programs/Strep Infections

    Hello,

Have any of you that have Pet Therapy Programs ever encounter one of the dogs testing positive for strep and how was it handled?  I have a lady who wants to join our program but her dog has tested positive for Strep and has taken three rounds of antibiotics and is still testing positive.  She asks if her Veterinarian were to write up something indicating that the dog was not contagious if she would be able to join the program.  Let me know if you have experienced anything of this nature.  Thanks, Nancy

I would discuss the issue with infection control.

We have not experienced anything similar. I would speak with our infection control and also look at benchmarking with national pet therapy programs like the Alliance for Therapy Dogs and TDI.
