For those of you that have Auxiliaries who do fundraising, could you share with us your guidelines on how you allocate your requests for funding, especially if you have an Allocations Committee.  If you are a 501(c)-3, we know you have specific criteria, but we are not under those guidelines.  Thank you!

Our Auxiliary is an independent 501 c 3.  Their Board of Directors (volunteer auxiliary members only) meets annually in the Spring to plan their budget. The distribution of the funds is determined by the BoD.  A majority of their funds are utilized for scholarships and to sponsor our Foundation events. Some departments submit written requests for financial assistance (no special form used).  Some items that have been financed in the past are: nursery items (recliner for mom's comfort; bereavement bears; a Walk to Remember program; ER bags for the children, TV's for our acute rehab unit).  In the end; the Board decides how monies are spent.

Our Auxiliary board sets the budget and goes through the formal approval process following Roberts Rules for budget approval which allocates amounts for each giving criteria.  Our giving areas are scholarships, community grants, and hospital grants. Total scholarship awards are given to university/college and the individual scholarship awards are selected by the university or college where the students are enrolled.  It was decided that professors have a better knowledge of the students than the Auxiliary did from reading applications so it was easier on the Auxiliary not to make these selections. Hospital grants are awarded through a selections committee referred to as the fundraising committee. The bylaws state that the selections committee must consist of the Chair, two members of the general membership and the Treasurer. The President and the DVS serve as advisors. Community grants are determined by the entire board.
