Does anyone do a sympathy or bereavement cart for families loosing a loved one- in-patient? Could have have a food tray, beverages, bereavement information, etc.? Also does your hospital use a lantern or like item to denote that a patient has passed? I am working on this initiative for our hospital and figured other folks might have something in place! Thanks for sharing, Charlene Marx, Pelham Medical Center.

Our Auxiliary sponsors Care Trays that can be ordered for families of critically ill patients or those whose death is imminent.  They can be ordered by staff, social workers, chaplain, palliative care nurse, etc.   They are trays of refreshments that are prepared and delivered by Food & Nutrition Dept. to the patient's room and they place a card on the tray stating that it was provided by the hospital's Auxiliary.  Our Chaplain also does a white long stemmed rose tied with a white ribbon on it (silk, but actually looks real!) and it is presented to the family at the time of death).
