Discharge Room manned by Volunteers

Does anyone have a "discharge room" in their hospital that is for patients who are discharged, but their rides are not there?  This frees up the bed and gives the patient a comfortable place to wait.  If you have this room, is it staffed by volunteers or someone else like a med tech?  Thanks for your feedback.  We've been asked to staff this and I have lots of concerns.

Our hospital was going to do that but we didn't have the space for a room.

I was like you, I had many worries while it was being discussed.

The room they were planning on using was directly across from my office!

For the time being, it has been put off indefinitely. I am interested to find out what others are doing too.

We have one. Staff oversee the space.

Barb, we piloted this and it was discontinued for many reasons. Under utilization compared to anticipated usage; could not justify someone to staff the room for the amount that it was used; volunteers were not appropriate to monitor the room for potential liability issues with the discharged patients there.

Barb, there was discussion at our hospital about this, but it has not happened and not sure if it will.  If it does, I will let you know.
