Additional Background Checks for Child Clearance

    Hello,

    In addition to the regular background check that we perform on all of our volunteers we are mandated by law to do an additional child clearance for volunteers that are assigned to our Child Development Center and our Psychiatric Hospital.  We are currently not doing this for any other volunteer areas including Children's Hospital.  

    Please let me know what your policy is regarding additional child clearance for volunteers in your hospital.  Thank you for your time!

    It would include child abuse, neglect, etc.

    I think it varies a lot by state and organization.  My system, which includes a children's hospital and a child development center, requires an additional check through the state Dept of Social Services for volunteers in pediatric/child care areas and fingerprinting for volunteers in psychiatric areas.
