Do you provide your volunteers with a Lunch/Meal voucher?  If yes is it managed/budgeted through Volunteer Services?

What criteria do volunteers need to meet to get one, i.e. work more than 4 hours, etc..?

Vouchers are not provided for 90% of the volunteers.  Volunteers are on the honor system to keep meals at a reasonable amount.  (approximately $5-$6).  They must utilize the benefit on the day in which they volunteer.  Most all shifts are 4 hours.  They are rung on the café register, discounted by 20%,  receipt is signed, Volunteer Svc budget is charged through the G/L by dietary secretary. They may take it in a to go box if the cannot stay on campus for their meal.  They must be in uniform with ID badge.  Cashiers will bring to my attention if someone is abusing the benefit so that I may address it.  Pastoral volunteers are issued vouchers from the PT chaplain who oversees those in that specialty as their shifts are generally short.  This does not come out of Volunteer Svc budget.  When teens are in for the summer; they are connected to our long term care facility only and not affiliated with the Volunteer Svc program, therefore, vouchers are given by that entity and it also does not come out of the Volunteer Svc budget.

We offer a free meal before or after each volunteer's shift that is paid through the Volunteer Resources budget. The volunteer must be wearing their volunteer uniform and sign for the meal. There is no specific limit to what a volunteer can get, and we find that the overwhelming majority of volunteers are respectful in their food choices. If a cashier feels that a volunteer is getting more than is appropriate, they let their supervisor know and he reaches out to us. In the 3 years that I've been at the hospital we've had one instance of a volunteer abusing the privilege.

We do not provide meals to volunteers for regular service. They get free coffee/tea/fountain beverages anytime, as well as 15% discount on "non-scanned" items (ie, fresh prepared food, not bagged chips). If a volunteer assists with a special project, fundraiser, or subs at a time when they normally would not be here, we normally provide a $6 meal coupon.

We provide meal vouchers that are worth $6 and volunteers must provide 4 hours of volunteer service on the day of use to be eligible. These vouchers are budgeted through Volunteer Services. Cashiers in the cafeteria, at one of our food kiosks or barista stand accept these as payment and volunteers are required to pay the difference in cost.

We provide a $6 snack voucher for adult volunteers. We do not offer the voucher to teens or college students. We generally say they need to complete one 3-4hr shift to be eligible for the snack voucher, but we don't verify hours. They must get the voucher on the day they are volunteering and are only allowed to use one per day. (We had a few volunteers who were keeping vouchers and they buying $20+ worth of food and "groceries"). We don't allow that. All snack vouchers are paid out of Volunteer Services budget.

We provide a $5 meal voucher to be used before or after the volunteer's shift. They also receive a free 8oz. coffee or tea if they take a break during their shift. They may not "save" the free drink to go with their meal because there's no way the cashiers could keep up with who got a drink on break and who didn't. We don't require a certain number of hours to get a meal because hours vary based on the assignment and I don't feel it would be fair to deny a meal because the department only needs a volunteer for 2 hours versus 4, for example. The amount spent each month is charged to my Volunteer Services budget.

    Hi Carol,

Thanks for your response, how many volunteers do you have?  Is this separate budget line from your volunteer recognition budget?
