Where do the pet trainers get the list of patients to visit?  Previously our nurses asked patients, then I heard it is no longer required-

Infection control limited some areas, so check with them. But on the in-patient units, the pet therapy volunteers and pets just knock on the door and ask if they want a visit. It there is a STOP sign on the door they, of course, would not enter. They also check with the nursing coordinators and charge nurse. We're a small hospital too, 48 beds.

Certainly infection control determines what areas can be visited, but we have a pet visitation form on the website that can be completed as well as a number to call on the in-house television station.  Same goes for clown visits.

When the teams go up, they confirm with the unit clerk or nurse that a visit is appropriate.
