    Hello,

We are interested in conducting group interviews for our college students and Junior Volunteers.  Does anyone do this and if so would you mind sharing your process.  Thank you for your help!  Nancy

Nancy, we started group interviews for all of our volunteers a couple of years ago, and it's much more efficient.  Once an potential volunteer has completed an application and been accepted, we send adults a background check to  complete.  Once the background check is cleared, we send them the next steps for processing, which includes:  1) a signupgenius link to sign up for a onboarding processing session 2) we request that the potential applicant completes their online volunteer orientation/HIPAA training/Quiz before coming to processing.  (We use VsysOne and the quiz populates into the database once completed.) 3) gather and bring the following to their onboarding processing session:  immunization records (including flu shot documentation, when appropriate), social security number (for Employee Health), $15 cash or check to purchase their polo or apron.  NOTE:  For those under 18 they will need to bring a guardian with them, 1 professional letter of reference and 1 person letter of reference.  At processing, we show a powerpoint and then meet with them individually to look at their immunization records and then fill out the "Volunteer Screening" paperwork for their TB and any other necessary screenings (MMR, varicella).  They will then go directly and have their blood work done.  I hope this information is helpful.

I started a new process for group interviews this year. I only use this for my teen program right now.  Any teen who has a completed application (application, immunizations, medical release, and school counselor recommendation form) on file by the application process is granted an interview.

I have over 100 teens to interview this month.  I have 4 nights of interviews scheduled.  Time slots are 5 p.m., 6 p.m. 6:45 and 7:30, 6 students per time slot. The interviews take about 30 minutes and it gives me a few minutes in between interviews to make notes and set up for the next group. I actually divide the teens into groups of 2 and have them interview each other. I give them a standard set of questions and give them 10 minutes to complete the interview. They then report out and introduce their partner to the group. This shows me time management, ability to follow directions, communication skills, leadership skills and personality.

I have loved this process so far. The teens give honest answers, seem to be more engaged and less nervous, and they like getting to know one another.
