Critical Care Phones

We have a situation in our CCU, a thirty-six bed unit, where family members answer pay phones and page other family members. We are looking for a better solution.  One family member is issued a code and they talk with a patient rep or nurse, but the pay phones are mainly being used by well wishers to reach the families. I have three questions:

    1. How do you handle calls from the public in your CCU/ICU?

    2. Do you close your CCU at night or are family members allowed to stay?

    3. Do you have open visitiation, or are there specific visiting hours in your CCU? For example we allow families back at 6, 10, 2, 6.

I would appreciate any help that you could give me with this. Thank you!
