I have just "inherited" much of the merchandise from our Lactation Store.  In researching what I have it has become very clear our patients and families do not purchase these items. Most are priced too low for Gift Shop profitability, have easily obtainable alternate choices from Target or Walmart, and .... well.... are mine now.   Since I will have to have at least some of this type of merchandise for a while, does anyone have suggestions as to what does sell?

We have had several departments unmeaningly try to unload their products on the gift shop.  Family Birthing Centers lactation supplies or Transitional Care gate belts, etc.  These are the not the same products as a gift shop would sell.  We also did not feel we had the expertise to sell those supplies and returned them.  After some time, the hospital hired a lactation specialist and worked out another way to sell those supplies.  I can see something like this in the future of ecommerce where patients can go online and purchase their products and not affect your shop, unless it was to make a small profit.
