My hospital and another hospital across town have merged and we are working to combine system side  onbaording requirements for:  Adult non-clinical volunteers, Adult clinical volunteers as well as teens in both clinical and non clinical areas.

What is your hospital's policy for drug screen, background check, and tdap?tb skin and or vaccine titers for each of these groups?

Our hospice requires this background check, fingerprint, on all volunteers due to our state requirements for HIPPA information for healthcare including hospices.  The teens basically go through a name based search and it sits on hold until they are 18.  Everyone also does the T-Spot blood draw versus the TB skin test, it only has to be done once not yearly and it's more accurate according to our QAPI, we do not do drug testing on volunteers.  Hope this is helpful.

None of our volunteers have clinical placements, so we have adult/college and then teens. Only those over 18 receive a background check and drug screen through HR. Everyone is required to have MMR, Varicella, and Tdap vaccines, plus flu during flu season. We require TB blood tests for all.
