We are considering implementing a feeding program in our extended care facility with the volunteers who will be selected by the Director of Nursing.  Does anyone have guidelines, suggestions, liability insurance information, etc that they would be willing to share.

    Thank you.

We have had a feeding program in place for several years now.  However, we have not had any volunteers interested in this assignment.  I actually purchased a feeding training program from the American Health Care Association.  This training is actually for CNAs in the nursing home environment.  It includes a manual and a video tape. I worked with a staff member to trim it down and make it appropriate to volunteers.

The name of the program is "Assisted Dining: The Role and Skills of Feeding Assistants" written by Bonnie L Walker and Claire Cole.  I found it online at the ACHA website.

If you would like to see the assignment description you may do so by going to my website at www.saintjosephvolunteers.org, clicking on "Volunteer Opportunities", and then clicking on "Silver Spoons Team".

I am in the process of starting a feeding project, and am hopeful that I'll find volunteers that are interested in it. I'm really excited about the possibilities for my hospital.

Has anyone had any success with type of program?

We are considering implementing a feeding program in our regional hospital.  Does anyone have guidelines, policy, training guide, suggestions, liability insurance information, etc that they would be willing to share.
