PERFORMANCE PLANNING
Responsible for management of DCH Regional Medical Center and Northport Medical Center’s Volunteer Services Department, Gift Shops and Cancer Center Boutique; Tuscaloosa, AL. Acts as liaison between facility Volunteer Auxiliaries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages departmental budget
- Interviews, selects, hires, and retains employees, including other management positions
- Ensures orientation and training for employees, including other management positions
- Manages performance, including other management positions
- Promotes, demotes, or transfers employees to meet organizational needs, including other management positions
- Executes progressive discipline up to and including termination
- Manages departmental productivity standards
- Provides strategic leadership for department(s)
- Performs long range planning and overall direction setting at the departmental level
- Responsible for department organizational structure and alignment to meet forecasted business needs
- Responsible for development, implementation and interpretation of system policies within a major organizational/functional area or the development and review of system policies within a recognized discipline
- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Approves payroll and is responsible for accurate payment of employees, including other management positions
- Assures meeting/exceeding of DCH mission and vision, departmental goals and 5 keys of excellence.
- Designs, develops and implements standards, for the direction, supervision and operation of the Gift Shop, Volunteer Program and Cancer Center Boutique.
- Purchases and controls inventory for DCH Gift Shop and Cancer Center Boutique.
- Knowledge of and follows insurance process procedures as it relates to the Cancer Center Boutique.
- Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates department employees.
- Directs office administration, budget and monetary activities for the Gift Shop, Volunteer Office and Cancer Center Boutique.
- Authorizes all Volunteer Auxiliary fundraising projects.
- Supports volunteer recognition initiatives.
- Oversees employee recognition initiatives for Health System.
- Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
- Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
- Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
B.S. Degree required. Previous retail management and/or gift shop management required. Experience in planning and coordinating events required. Previous experience in working with volunteers required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Supervisory and buyer experience preferred. Previous experience preparing and tracking budgets required. Good manual and finger dexterity. Hearing and vision must be corrected to within normal range. Good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
WORKING CONDITIONS
L-Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or
more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when
it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but
entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a
production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of
those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace,
especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of
force exerted is negligible.
Comes in contact with others, coordinates and leads others, deals with external customers, uses electronic mail and telephone, types letters and memos, participates in face to face discussions, works with groups or team, makes presentations to large groups, responsible for outcomes and results. Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
