Is anyone aware of any laws related to the number of hours a volunteer can serve? Is there a cap? I have looked online to no avail. Thanks!

The only limitation to number of hours worked that I'm aware of is for young people. Unless there's been a change, child labor laws say that children during the school year can be scheduled no more than 3 hours/day, no more than 18 hours/week, no work hours after 9 p.m. Outside the school year, it increases to no more than 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week or after 9 p.m. This rule applies to those at least 14 through 16.

Actually from 14-16 on a school night they are not allowed to work past 7 PM.

Be wary of wage and hour laws.  If a volunteer works too much, especially in one service, it could be construed as a pay job.  If they are working  30 to 40 hours a week, it needs to be in several services.
