Volunteer Lead Meetings

    Hi all,

Our volunteer organization transitioned from an auxiliary to a hospital department about 7 years ago.  With that change, our board of directors transitioned to an advisory council that meets monthly.  The council meetings are led by staff who share department and hospital updates.  Volunteer team leads share news from their service areas.  This council actually is not in an advisory role with the exception of providing input on the projects their fundraising dollars benefit.  The monthly meetings are more of a holdover from our auxiliary days but have been a good way to bring team leads together for a face to face each month.  With staff consolidations and everyone doing more with less, we are re-evaluating the purpose and value of the meetings.  I would love to hear if other organizations are holding regular meetings and who you are meeting with.  What is the purpose or agenda?  Do you see value in meeting?  Thank you for sharing!

At our hospital we transitioned the auxiliary to be its own committee with it's own guidelines instead of bylaws. This is under the hospital umbrella that includes all of the volunteers without dues. We still have an elected board, that meets to discuss volunteer and hospital updates along with voting on what to do with the monies raised in the Gift Shop and fundraising. Our auxiliary president sets on our Foundation board of directors, so the auxiliary is always involved with hospital events.

Since we still have a significant amount of money (thankfully) that is technically dictated by our auxiliary and volunteers, we have continued to have quarterly board meetings that are short but beneficial.

    Hope this helps!
