I was giving the student job shadowing effective July 1.

For the one's that handle shadowing, I have a few questions:

What paperwork do you provide the student?

Is there a minimum/maximum amount of hours?

Do you record their information in your program for your volunteers to keep up with their hours and total students come through your department.

Do you do a background check?

Are they required to go to orientation?

Do they follow the guidelines for associate health like the volunteers.

    Do they wear a uniform?

If you could send me any information regarding your program, it would be appreciated. My email is nancy.rogers@scotlandhealth.org

    Thanks,

    Nancy Rogers

Shadowing is through our Medical Staff office.  Student must get a yes from the provider before contacting Medical Staff coordinator.  The student does whatever paperwork is needed through them.  The student shadowing is generally a day or two.  They are issued and ID badge through HR and they wear business casual and their own lab coat.

Clinical rotations of students are handled through our Clinical Education department which is coordinated with the local colleges.   I do not receive communication of where they are being place nor when.... which sometimes can cause issue of student being in the same vicinity as volunteers.  i.e.: nursery

Hours are not counted as volunteer hours nor does the volunteer office become involved.

Internships are handled through HR.  Follow similar format as student onboarding.  Volunteer services is not involved.

We have an office that does nothing but that called OLE (Observation and Learning Experience). They have a staff of 3. There is lots of good info listed on their website.
