    Good morning,

I’m planning to launch a Veteran-to-Veteran program, where veteran volunteers will visit hospitalized veterans to offer support and companionship.

If you have a similar program in place, I’d love to learn how you document and track these interactions. We use Epic at our facility, so I’ll need to build a report to support this initiative.

If you also use Epic and are willing to share how you’ve structured or implemented this functionality, I’d greatly appreciate any insights or examples you can provide.

    Thanks for all you do,

    Jill,

We have a veteran visitation program which we began a few months ago.  We have started simple with a report which runs each morning from EPIC showing us veteran's admitted to our inpatient floors.  I have one volunteer each day who rounds on them to simply say hello, thank them for their service, visit for a moment and we present them with a military challenge coin.

The EPIC report also shows me name;  admission date/time; last admission (I try to visit just once if they have been admitted since we began the program in June, but that is getting a bit challenging to manage so I'm working on ways to manage that better); room number; admit in last 24 hours (this column is checked and these are the ones we visit daily since patients can have multi-day stays - just helps me quickly tell volunteers who to visit).

Volunteers love visiting the patients.  I have some staff members that back up the volunteers if they are out for the day.  Currently, we only visit M-F so the Monday volunteer can get lots of visits trying to catch up from the weekend.

Feel free to call if you have questions -  940-764-3044.
