Hello   - we are looking into starting a comfort cart.. i think some call it a sunshine cart.   IF you have one... please let me know what model of cart you went with and why it works for you.

Also, do you service patients or staff.    Thank you!

I would like this information too. Pictures would be great if available. Also, what items do you include on your cart?

Yes, I would like information as well.  I am in the middle of requesting funding for one.

    Good morning, SHVL Friends -

We have a Sunshine Cart at Ephraim McDowell Health (3 hospitals) and it is very well received by patients and families.

The cart is a library cart and is stocked with donated books and magazines (for both adults and children) as well as puzzles, games, card games, etc. that are funded by our Auxiliaries.  Once a patient or visitor takes something from the cart, it is theirs to keep.

Decks of playing cards have been very popular as well as small Uno decks.  Typically, supplies are bought at Dollar Tree, unless we stock up on colored pencils and crayons at the back-to-school sales!

Patients and families seem to really appreciate the visit by the Volunteers taking the cart around as well!

Our Cheer Carts service patients in the inpatient setting as well as waiting rooms. They are supplied by donation and I supplement with purchased items when necessary. I purchased plastic utility carts with the hopes of having them wrapped with volunteer marketing info (QR code, etc.) but the wrap wouldn't work on the plastic. Considering that, I would possibly have bought metal carts instead. I was able to get lettering put on them to identify them as Volunteer Cheer Carts.

We have a cart that is called the Welcome Rounds cart. It goes out daily to see all new admissions. It's primary purpose is to educate about their call button, tv remote, bed controls, white communication board, patient guide and then if they need items those are provided: phone chargers, reading glasses, hairbrush, hair ties, ear plugs, contact cases, activity books,  etc. Toiletries are given from the supply room from each floor if the patient hasn't already been given some.  We keep data on the number of patient visits and hospital given items or items provided off the cart. We hare 1 year into this new assignment and our patient satisfaction scores for this facility have improved. We are now working on our second hospital to bring this program there. Here is a small video done on the cart : https://vimeo.com/1096311255/f40b3cd044?share=copy
