    Hello all,

What division do you report up through in your system? If you are in a Patient Experience division, what other departments are in your area?

    Thanks in advance!

When I 1st started in this role about 11 years ago we reported to the Human Resources officer. That was the best alignment and resource for Volunteer Services. Then when she retired I was bounced around to different leaders in administration. Last year a position was created in between admin and my role, I now report to the VP of EVS/Food Service.

I currently report to the AVP of Patient Centered Services. He also oversees Patient Experience, Guest Services, Language Services, and Arts in Healthcare. This is the 5th different reporting structure I have been in over 20 years.

In 10 years I’ve moved from

VP of support services ( which was the best fit ), to foundation and now to VP of HR.

Placement usually depends on your organization’s overall view of volunteer services. Are they unpaid employees who need regulations (HR), are they an extension of providing care and assistance to the mission (support services or patient experience VP) or are they donors because their auxiliary monies and fundraising needs oversight ( foundation VP).  This is not to say if your under HR you don’t have an auxiliary and fundraising it just tends to be that as administration changes they bring with them their idea of where we belong.

might I add, usually never adding the DVS or the auxiliaries to the conversation. Lol
