Does anyone know any policies/best practices/regulations or have had concerns arise regarding donated items such as home-made hats, blankets, scarves (we get a lot of crochet items)? Do we have to be concerned with any fire retardant policies when it comes to these things?

As far as I know it's only an issue if the amount of items you get is more than your zoned fire compartment. Which would be a huge amount of knit/crochet items. But I could be wrong. We have more of an issue with it for donated toys during the holidays so we can only stage a certain amount in one fire zone.

Thanks, Lindsay! Do you determine the limits of fire zones by checking with your facilities and construction management departments?

Yes, your facilities team should be able to tell you your fire zone. They might ask you to talk with your safety and security team also in terms of the fire code amounts. It would depend on how your departments are set up but that's a good place to start if you want to dig into the issue. Good luck!
