Hi Robbie, that is hysterical!  When our auxiliaries are dying out, your hospital wants to start one.  My auxiliary president took our binder home to clean it up  I'll try to make copies of the important stuff...bylaws, etc. when she brings it back.

BTW-many hospitals these days are not differentiating an auxilian from a volunteer.  They are one and the same to prevent creating an elite group.  Barb

I'll second Barb! The conversation I am having with my Auxiliary is about whether having a named "Auxiliary" continues to be the best road.

The Association of Florida Healthcare Auxiliaries created a "How To" handbook several years ago. It may be helpful if you want to try and reach out to the secretary of that organization. www.afhav.org.

    Good Luck!

I too am impressed anyone wants to start one!  Mine collapsed several years ago because no one would take any of the leadership positions and none of the younger members would do any of the committee activities.  The culture has changed.  Potential volunteers want to come in, serve, and leave.  The need to have an Auxiliary with social activities, dues, an organizational structure, fundraisers, and so on died some time ago.

My suggestion would be to survey your volunteers and anyone else who would like to weigh in as to how involved they agree to be.  If you can't get a solid number of individuals who will take leadership positions, manage committees and so on, you are in trouble from the get-go.

2015 Definition of "Auxiliary"   Staff does all the work, someone else takes all the credit.  We are in theprocess of going from an auxiliary to an advisory committee.  At our place, all fundraising goes through the foundation, so little for them to do now.

I suspect your administration is thinking that this is a fundraising tool.  And if you charge dues, you will spend more money collecting and recordkeeping than you will bring in.
