We currently provide a Cafeteria meal ticket (value $7.50 after 20% discount...which means the true value is over $9.00 at visitor prices) to a volunteer for every shift they volunteer.  For those who must leave after their shift is over, they have the option of getting a meal to go.  We do ask that they use the ticket to purchase a similar size meal they would eat at home that time of day and not purchase extras (Little Debbie's, donuts, chips, etc.) to take home for later.

A small group of volunteers have become somewhat demanding in the Cafeteria asking for things that are not served on that particular day, complaining about the food choices, asking to be served "just a few minutes" before the cafeteria opens since most of the food is already out, etc.

Most are very appreciative and realize this is a perk that not all volunteer groups get....can anyone share if they do or do not provide meals and if so, the value of the meal?

    Thanks!

We provide a meal for all volunteers who serve a shift of 3.5 hours or longer. The value of meal should not exceed $4.50 and they receive the employee discount (25%).

We provide meals for those that work more than 5 hours. The value is $8.00 plus the discount which is 20%.

Our current meal allotment per day is valued at up to $5 (or up to $6 when you consider the 20% discount for staff).  Cafeteria prices have increased substantially over the last few months and we will probably propose an increase with the beginning of our fiscal year in October.  We too have some abuse of the benefit, but the majority of volunteers purchase what they expect to eat at the meal.  Our volunteers swipe their badge in the cafeteria to access these funds.

We have worked with our cafeteria to have numbered tickets that the volunteers must sign for on a numbered sheet (we can track).  The amount is $7.00 plus discount, and must be used on the same day.  They pay any cost over.  We look at it as they can use the full amount so that the college students and seniors at least get one good meal that day.  Our cafe closes for one hour for swap over i.e. breakfast to lunch so they can't get in early.  We require three hours of service for a meal ticket.

We provide a 5.oo limit for meals in exchange for their service. We have had some abuse but gentle reminders during training sessions have helped.

Our volunteers receive a $5.00 meal allowance to be used in the cafeteria or cafe.  Each volunteer receives a 20% discount (as does our empl.).  The volunteers name badge is used rather than a "ticket".  The badge is swiped rather tan a ticket and that in turn hits my budgeted line item.  The system will not allow a charge greater than $5.00.  If it is $5.50 the volunteer will have to pay the .50 cents.

The volunteer must give a min. of 4 hours of service to utilize the allowance.  They are premitted to get their meal to go if they chose not to dine at the hospital.

We have been very lucky...have not had volunteers abuse our system.  I have my fingers crossed that this practice continues.

We do not provide meal coupons for every shift served.  Instead they are an incentive for those volunteers that cover another volunteer's shift (sub).  It is a $4.00 coupon currently, but comparing to others posted here, I'll certainly consider raising that rate.  We also send volunteers a meal coupon for their birthday, valued at $5.00.

I have not heard of any abuse in the cafe other than some that try to get a discount by flashing their ID even if they are not in uniform or volunteering that day.  Which honestly is not a concern.

We have not provided meal tickets for our volunteers for over 20 years.  Right after the practice of providing meal tickets ended, we had a few volunteers who were upset, but the majority of them stated that "they didn't come to volunteer for a free meal" and that it was an "honor for them to volunteer".

Our volunteers receive the same discounts that employees receive in our cafe & in our coffee shop (10-15%).  They also receive a $4.00 meal allowance on the day they volunteer.  We do not require a minimum number of hours, just whatever the normal "shift" is for their particular area.  I've had a few problems with people putting things in their pockets instead of presenting all items to the cashier (crackers, etc.) but nothing major.  I think I need to raise my allowance though after reading what some hospitals are providing - wow!  Hope my volunteers don't hear about it!!
