My current Gift Shop manager is asking about getting a paid position.  We've always had the gift shop completely run by volunteers.  What is the standard thought about this?  Maybe offer a stipend from the Auxiliary or Gift shop fund?  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I agree with Greg. Gift Shops are run like retail stores and need management as well as operational knowledge and skills. If your current volunteer has the talent and skills, please consider writing a position description and creating a staffing FTE as .5 or .75 or 1.0.
