    How do you document department training?  We're looking to update our current process.  Would anyone be able to share a sample of their document? Thanks!

    I continue to do the "old fashion" formal live social training event.   I take it off sight to a conference center.  It runs 10 am - 2 pm with time for socializing (a bit).   It allows me to gather most all the volunteers in one place two times per year.  Annual PPD's are given and Flu shots (optional).  I have hospital personnel speak on the necessary topics such as confidentiality, customer service, safety, etc.  A post test is given for written documentation and also a self evaluation of the volunteer and the volunteer program so i can receive feedback both pro's and con's.  Once all documents are reviewed, they are scanned into the volunteer personnel file and date of completion documented in the volunteer time keeping system.  If they cannot attend the event, electronic version is provided with post test.   Hope this is helpful.

    Thanks Carol - that sounds like an outstanding process!

    Could you also share what you require from department leaders to show that they trained the new volunteer assigned to their specific area?  We want to make it easier for all, but also have a solid way of documenting that they were appropriately trained for their volunteer role.

    We have a service description for each of our volunteer service areas and after the volunteer's training is complete, we have the trainer (whether it is a volunteer or a staff member) and the volunteer initial each section of the service description and also have them sign/date the service description at the bottom which states "By signing below, I agree that I have received orientation and that I am familiar with the information outlined."   This form becomes part of their file.

     I use the attached document which is modified a bit from what our HR uses for staff department orientation.  The document is 2-sided with generic department training on the front and specific assignment training on the back.  For those competencies, I use the assignments detailed on the assignment description that the volunteer receives and signs.
